KB-VIT0003 - Installing VMware tools on Ubuntu
Mount the VMware Tools ISO, then make a directory to mount the ISO to by entering the following commands:
sudo mkdir /mnt/cdrom
Then, mount the direction:
sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
List the contents of the directory:
ls /mnt/cdrom
Unzip the files into a temp directory:
tar xzvf /mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools-9.6.5-2700074.tar.gz –C /tmp/
*NOTE: Your version may differ, be sure to correctly enter your tarball filename.
Once all the files are unzipped, change into the /tmp/ directory:
cd /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib/
Now, we just need to run the install package:
sudo ./ –d
*NOTE: the –d switch accepts all defaults.
Finally, reboot the system.
sudo reboot
