KB-VIT0005 - Users getting blank screen on Citrix NetScaler Gateway in IE11

Problem:
IE11 users are receiving a blank screen when they visit the Access Gateway login page. Adding the Access Gateway URL to compatibility view resolves the issue and users are able to log in and work normally.

Resolution:
IE11 sucks, so you have to force the NetScaler into compatibility mode for all sessions. This is a very simple, 15 minute fix. Just follow these steps:

1. Open WinSCP  and connect to your NetScaler with root priviledges and browse to /netscaler/ns_gui/vpn






2. Double click on index.html to edit the file. In the editor, add the following text in the header, before the body tag:
   





3. Save your changes, close the file, then save a copy on your local disk (select index.html in right pane and press F5)






Here is the part people tend to forget about.  The /netscaler/ns_gui/vpn directory loses changes on reboot, so you have to do something to prevent your new index.html file from reverting ever time the appliance reboots.

1. Put your new index.html file somewhere non-volatile, such as /var/customizations.




2. Open the file named rc.netscaler in the /flash/nsconfig directory. If the file does not exist, create it.









3. Edit the file rc.netscaler file to contain the following command:
     cp /var/customizations/index.html /netscaler/ns_gui/vpn/index.html



Now, every time the device reboots, this script will overwrite the default index.html file with the custom one you saved in the /var/customizations directory


Repeat these steps for every NetScaler!
